Project At A Glance
The Brief
The house and its double garage had black-painted timber fascias and soffits that were in poor condition, with the paint failing and some of the timber rotting. The old guttering was past its best too, and it still had its original cast downpipes. Left alone, failing paint and rot let water into the roofline, and a leaking or sagging gutter can soak the brickwork and render below.
The answer was a full replacement of the roofline. We took off the old boards, cut out and replaced any rotten timber behind them, and fitted new uPVC fascias and soffits, a low-maintenance material that will not rot or need repainting. New guttering and new downpipes went on to match, replacing the old cast ones, all in a smart modern colour: anthracite grey.

What We Fitted
Freefoam
uPVC fascia and soffit boards in anthracite grey, fitted around the whole roofline of the house and the double garage. They need no painting and wipe clean.
Freeflow
Freeflow half-round guttering with matching downpipes, gutter outlets and fittings in anthracite grey, replacing the old, tired guttering and the original cast downpipes.
Manthorpe Linear
Manthorpe Linear dry verge system on the gable ends, giving a clean, finished verge line without relying on mortar that cracks and falls out over time.
Neat Detail Around The Roofline
The difference is in the detail. We took care over the box ends and returns, the junctions where fascia meets soffit, the apex of the gable and the ridge cap, and the gutter outlets and downpipes, so everything lines up and finishes cleanly.
On the gable ends, the Manthorpe Linear dry verge gives a tidy, mechanically fixed finish without relying on mortar, and sits neatly with the new fascias and soffits.
The Finished Detail
How We Approach A Job Like This
The order we work in on a roofline replacement:
Remove the old fascias, soffits, guttering and cast downpipes, then check the timbers underneath and replace anything that has rotted.
Fit the new soffits and fascia boards, level and tight to the line of the roof.
Fit the dry verge system at the gable ends, with box ends and returns finished neatly.
Fit the guttering and downpipes with correct falls so water drains away properly.
Check every joint and outlet, then clear the site and leave the property tidy.
Why Homeowners Choose uPVC Fascias And Soffits
The main reasons we hear:
- No repainting. The colour is the material, so there is no peeling or flaking.
- Rot-proof, so no more worry about damp timber behind the fascia.
- Easy to clean with a wipe-down, and it stays looking smart.
- A modern, consistent finish that ties the fascias, soffits and gutters together.
- Quicker to fit than a repaint-and-repair, with a neat result.
We will talk you through the options for your own property, whether that means a full replacement or a repair.

Frequently Asked Questions
What products did you use on this job?
We fitted Freefoam uPVC fascias and soffits and Freeflow half-round guttering with matching downpipes, all in anthracite grey, and a Manthorpe Linear dry verge system on the gable ends.
Why replace painted timber fascias with uPVC?
Painted timber needs repainting every few years and can rot if paint fails and water gets in, as it had on this house and garage. uPVC fascias and soffits do not need painting and can be wiped clean, so they stay looking smart with very little upkeep.
What is a dry verge system?
A dry verge system secures the tiles along a gable end without relying on mortar. Mortar verges tend to crack, loosen and fall out over time, so a dry verge gives a neater, longer-lasting finish.
Why choose anthracite grey?
Anthracite grey is a popular, modern colour that suits brick, render and most roof coverings. It looks smart against both, and many homeowners choose it over white because it hides dirt and weathering better.
Should the guttering be replaced at the same time as the fascias?
Often, yes. The gutters are fixed to the fascia, so replacing them together means everything is fitted level, matches in colour and does not need to be taken down again later. We will advise what makes sense for your property.
How long does a fascia, soffit and guttering job take?
It depends on the size of the property, the access needed and the weather. A typical house takes a few days. We will give you a realistic timescale when we quote.
Which areas do you cover?
We are based in Wrexham and cover North Wales, north Shropshire and west Cheshire, including Chester, Flintshire, Denbighshire and the Wirral. We also take on jobs in Liverpool and Merseyside by arrangement.
