Built To Last In The Welsh Weather

A flat roof takes a battering here — driving rain, strong winds and constant changes in temperature all test how well a roofing system performs.

That’s why we install premium SOPREMA Laser Gold SBS-modified bitumen roofing systems, formerly manufactured by Chesterfelt.

Combined with careful preparation and professional torch-on application, these systems provide a durable and watertight solution for flat roofs on extensions, garages, outbuildings and full re-roofing projects.

Up To 20-Year Manufacturer Product Warranty 10-Year Workmanship Guarantee

High-Performance Torch-On Systems

We install two SOPREMA Laser Gold configurations, so the system you get matches your roof rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

Which system is right depends on the roof construction, condition of the existing deck, moisture considerations and the requirements of the property.

We’ll inspect the roof and recommend the appropriate system rather than simply quoting for the most expensive option.

3-Layer Premium Venting System

Our most comprehensive system, built with additional moisture management.

The 3-layer SOPREMA Laser Gold system combines a perforated Debovent venting layer, 3mm SBS heavy-duty underlay and a Charcoal Mineral Cap Sheet.

The venting layer helps manage moisture vapour beneath the waterproofing system, reducing the risk of blistering and bubbling associated with trapped moisture.

Key Benefits

  • 20-Year SOPREMA product warranty
  • 10-Year workmanship guarantee
  • Additional moisture-vapour management
  • Flexible SBS-modified bitumen construction
  • Heavy-duty reinforced membranes
  • Strong resistance to changing weather conditions
  • Suitable for extensions and main-house flat roofs
  • Designed for long-term performance

Ideal For

  • House extensions
  • Main-house flat roofs
  • Larger or higher-value projects
  • Roofs where moisture management is a consideration
  • Projects where enhanced system performance is preferred

2-Layer High-Performance System

Premium SBS protection without the additional venting layer.

Our 2-layer system provides a high-performance waterproofing solution for roofs where a venting layer isn’t required or where a more straightforward build-up is appropriate.

It consists of a 3mm SBS heavy-duty underlay, bonded directly to the prepared substrate, followed by a heavy-duty Charcoal Mineral Cap Sheet.

Key Benefits

  • 15-Year SOPREMA product warranty
  • 10-Year workmanship guarantee
  • SBS-modified bitumen construction
  • Excellent flexibility and durability
  • Heavy-duty reinforced membranes
  • Mineral-finished protective surface
  • A cost-effective alternative to the 3-layer system

Ideal For

  • Garage roofs
  • Outbuildings
  • Suitable refurbishment projects
  • Smaller flat roofs
  • Projects where a quality but more economical system is appropriate

Which System Is Right For Your Roof?

You don’t need to know which system your roof needs before you call us — that’s our job.

Before we quote for an installation, we assess:

  • The condition of the existing timber deck
  • Any signs of rot or water damage
  • The general condition of the roof structure
  • How the roof drains and whether the existing falls are suitable
  • The size, shape and detailing of the roof
  • The requirements of the individual property
We don’t believe in replacing perfectly good timber or selling you materials you don’t need.

If the existing deck is sound and suitable for the new roofing system, we’ll work with it rather than replacing it unnecessarily.

If we do find damaged timber or other issues, we’ll explain exactly what needs doing — and why — before any additional work starts.

Why We Use SBS-Modified Bitumen

Not all flat roofing materials are made to the same standard.

Budget roofing materials can become brittle with age and temperature changes, increasing the risk of cracking, splitting and water ingress.

Our SOPREMA systems use SBS-modified bitumen.

SBS stands for Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene. It is a synthetic rubber modifier incorporated into the bitumen, giving the waterproofing membrane increased flexibility and elasticity.

Designed To Move With Your Roof

Flat roofs naturally expand and contract as temperatures change.

SBS modification gives the membrane greater flexibility, helping it accommodate normal movement and thermal cycling while reducing the risk of cracking.

Built For The Local Climate

Your flat roof has to cope with everything from freezing winter temperatures to hot summer days, heavy rain and strong winds.

SBS-modified bitumen is designed to maintain its flexibility and waterproofing performance across a wide range of temperatures.

Strong, Reinforced Construction

The roofing membranes are reinforced to provide good tensile and tear strength, helping the finished system withstand the demands of a working flat roof.

Long-Term Performance

When correctly specified, professionally installed and properly maintained, an SBS-modified bitumen system can provide many years of reliable service.

Quality materials, correct preparation and careful installation are what make the difference.

Our Torch-On Flat Roofing Installation Process

A high-quality flat roof isn’t just about the materials.

Even the best roofing system can perform poorly if the deck, preparation or detailing isn’t right.

That’s why we take a careful, methodical approach from the initial strip through to the final inspection.

1

Strip & Structural Inspection

We carefully remove the existing roofing materials and inspect the timber deck for signs of:

  • Rot
  • Water damage
  • Soft spots
  • Structural deterioration

Sound decking is retained rather than replaced unnecessarily. Where damage is found, we’ll explain what needs doing before any additional work goes ahead.

2

Surface Preparation & Priming

We clear the deck of loose material and debris and make sure the surface is ready for the new waterproofing system.

Where required, a suitable bituminous primer is applied to prepare the substrate and help achieve a strong bond with the roofing membranes.

3

Professional Torch-On Application

We install your chosen SOPREMA Laser Gold system using professional torch-on techniques. The membranes are carefully heat-welded together, with particular attention given to:

  • Roof edges
  • Upstands
  • Corners
  • Abutments
  • Drainage outlets
  • Pipe penetrations
  • Membrane laps
  • Flashing details

These areas require careful detailing because they are particularly important to the long-term performance of the roof. Our aim is to create a continuous, fully bonded waterproofing system across the roof.

4

Final Inspection & Clean-Up

We carry out a detailed check of the finished roof, including membrane laps, edges and critical details.

All roofing waste is removed from site and disposed of responsibly, leaving your property clean, tidy and safe.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you provide a guarantee?

Yes. New torch-on flat roof installations are covered by our 10-Year Workmanship Guarantee, subject to our guarantee terms and conditions, alongside the applicable SOPREMA manufacturer product warranty of 15 or 20 years depending on the system. Flat roof repairs, rather than new installations, carry a 12-month workmanship guarantee.

What’s the difference between the 2-layer and 3-layer systems?

The 3-layer system adds a perforated Debovent venting layer beneath the underlay and cap sheet, providing additional moisture-vapour management. The 2-layer system does not include the venting layer and provides a more straightforward, high-performance waterproofing build-up. We’ll recommend the appropriate system after assessing the roof.

Will you replace my timber deck even if it doesn’t need it?

No. If the existing deck is structurally sound and suitable for the new roofing system, we’ll retain it. We only replace timber where we find rot, water damage or structural weakness, and we’ll explain exactly what needs replacing before additional work begins.

How long will my new torch-on roof last?

Service life depends on the system chosen, installation quality, roof construction, drainage, exposure and ongoing maintenance. A correctly specified and professionally installed SBS-modified bitumen system is designed for long-term performance and is backed by an applicable manufacturer product warranty of 15 or 20 years, depending on the system.

Is torch-on felt suitable for a garage or outbuilding?

Yes. Our 2-layer high-performance system can be a cost-effective option for garages, outbuildings and smaller flat roofs, while the 3-layer system may be more appropriate for extensions and main-house roofs. We’ll recommend the right system after seeing the roof.

Do I need to know which system I want before I call?

Not at all. We’ll assess the roof, existing deck and relevant details, then recommend the system that genuinely suits your property rather than simply choosing the most expensive option.

Do you remove and dispose of the old roof?

Yes. Where required, we strip the existing roofing materials, inspect the underlying deck and prepare the roof for the new waterproofing system.

Will you leave the site clean and tidy?

Yes. All roofing waste is removed from site and disposed of responsibly, and we leave the work area clean and tidy once the installation is complete.
